ATTORNEYS Kathleen Dick Leslie / Partner Overview: Ms. Leslie has an extensive background in product liability defense, including mass toxic tort, flow control, alarm system, subrogation, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. She has handled litigation for manufacturing clients on both a local and national basis, including coordination of document production for national pharmaceutical litigation, and coordination and direct oversight of 380 medical device matters filed in both state courts and consolidated in Federal Multi-District Litigation. In that medical device litigation, Ms. Leslie directed a core team of attorneys, oversaw local counsel, and implemented national defense protocols and strategies, as well as assuming the direct defense of Whitney & Bogris’ client in several jurisdictions. Ms. Leslie was a member of the trial teams that obtained defense judgments in that litigation in Laconia, New Hampshire and Alameda County, California. Ms. Leslie has also successfully defended complex medical negligence actions involving claims of death and cancer in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and has negotiated nominal-figure settlements in numerous DES cases in both Maryland and the District of Columbia. Ms. Leslie’s practice also includes fire and life safety equipment and flow control product liability litigation. In this context, she recently settled a multi-million dollar mold claim in Texas for a nominal contribution from our client. Ms. Leslie’s practice has also included state and federal trials and appeals in civil rights, premises liability and insurance defense matters Ms. Leslie’s practice also includes development, on a national basis, of experts, including those in the medical, occupational, economic, manufacturing and construction fields. She has extensive experience in preparing such experts for deposition and trial and in defending expert depositions. Ms. Leslie has been successful in obtaining dismissals or nominal settlements in several cases after strong depositions given by Whitney & Bogris’ expert. Ms. Leslie is co-author of an article entitled HIPAA: The Basics in the Maryland Defense Journal and heads the firm’s efforts to assure that litigation for laboratory clients adheres to the requirements of that legislation. Ms. Leslie was elected a partner in January 2000, after having joined Whitney & Bogris as an associate in 1994.
