ATTORNEYS George D. Bogris / Partner Overview: Mr. Bogris has extensive experience in handling the defense of toxic tort, product liability, professional malpractice, construction litigation, insurance coverage, automobile and premises liability litigation. He has represented manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, restaurants, one of the nation's leading steel manufacturers, and the second largest waste removal company in the United States, as well as insurance companies in coverage disputes. Mr. Bogris has represented clients in administrative settings including Attorney Grievance Commission matters, unemployment proceedings, and liquor board and zoning appeals. He has a significant amount of appellate experience, having briefed and argued appeals involving legal malpractice, accountant malpractice, consumer lending laws, abuse of process, insurance coverage, and attorney sanctions, all on behalf of insurers, insureds, and defendants. Mr. Bogris is an appointed Mediator for the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and a member of the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland. He was elected a Partner in January 1997, after having joined the firm as its first associate in 1992. Prior to joining Whitney & Bogris, he was an associate with Eccleston & Wolf, where his litigation practice concentrated on professional malpractice defense with an emphasis on attorney malpractice. Notable verdicts include Tompkins v. Grinnell Fire Protection, a contract matter in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Mr. Bogris defended Grinnell in a claim brought by the General Contractor following the unintended discharge of a sprinkler head on the 10th floor of a 10-story facility that was 95% complete. The Contractor sought nearly $2 million in damages. Mr. Bogris obtained a defense verdict and recovered on Grinnell’s counterclaim for the remainder/retainage under its contract. Representing Bethlehem Steel, Mr. Bogris received a summary judgment in a claim brought by a shipworker injured at a ship repair facility. A defense verdict was also obtained and upheld on appeal in a matter asserted by an independent contractor’s employee injured at a Bethlehem Steel yard. Mr. Bogris also has significant experience in representing plaintiffs in carefully screened matters. He received a $2.75 million verdict representing the family of a crime victim who was killed in a mall parking lot during a robbery, as well as a verdict of $150,000 representing the plaintiff in a false arrest and malicious prosecution matter.
